So here we are, Texas was bound to have an alternative supplier of Pentobarbital long before its expiring stock ran out. According the AP today, Texas’ new best friend is a compounding pharmacy in the suburbs of Houston.
Without any FDA supervision, independent pharmacists can prepare drugs. Now the true question is who signed this prescription? The American Medical Association has a clear position on the issue: no medical professional can participate or assist in the process of executing human beings.
Recently, several cases of drugs prepared by compounding pharmacies, which led to a number of deaths among its users, made the news. The US Congress and the FDA are taking a closer look. In the meantime, death row prisoners in Texas are becoming guinea pigs in the name of justice.
Although pharmacists do have a code of ethics one wonders, who in this profession accepts to knowingly kill human beings for money?
- Send a message to the American Pharmacists Association or post comments and messages on their facebook page! Tell them about their indifference to this scandalous situation that brings disrepute to the whole profession!
- If you haven’t already done so, sign and share our petition: “David Miller & Dagmar Climo, IACP: Address the ethical issue of supplying drugs for executions” on Change.org
Take a stand against and raise your voice against the use of lethal injection in human executions. Thank you!
